A mismatched pair of antique little glasses, these were purchased in Paris,I thought they were for sherry or other liqueurs but was told recently they might be penny lick glasses.A penny's worth of ice cream was served in them before they were banned in 1898 for unhygienic practices of certain ice cream vendors who weren't washing them between uses.
Lovely heavy moulded glass, both a bit wobbly and not a perfect match as you can see,one is a slightly cleared glass and different sizes, the inside of the glass was designed to make the customer think they were getting more ice cream than they reall were.
Approximately 85mm high, good vintage condition, one has a tiny nick on the base.
Please note that they are little.
